Magnetic Separator

The magnetic separator unit was developed and built on customer request to investigate the separation behavior of magnetically removable impurities from aqueous solutions using a magnetic separator.

The center piece of the unit is the flow tank, in which 13 neodymium permanent magnets are embedded in special receiver tubes. Using hydraulic cylinders, the magnets can be retracted or extended of the flow tank, automated or manually. The particles accumulate during the experiment on the receiver tubes and are automatically rinsed with water from the receiver tubes after extension of the magnets. In addition to the volume flow and the length of the experiment respectively contact, the flow behavior within the flow tank can be varied using specially manufactured perforated plates. In addition to the pure separator function, the unit has an automated draining of the flow tank, a rinsing of the magnet receiver tubes and a sludge discharge from the flow tank.

All functions and process steps are controlled and monitored via a PLC. The process parameters are variable and can be adapted individually at any time. All measurement and control data can optionally be extracted from the PLC and recorded, standardized and visualized via an external data acquisition system. The test data are stored in a format readable by excel.

Field of use:

  • Experiments to separate magnetically removable particles from different aqueous solutions
  • Investigation on the separation behavior of magnetically removable particles from aqueous solutions by changing the flow behavior
  • Optimization of process parameters
  • Cleaning and rinsing investigations oft he magnet receiver tubes and the flow tank
