Solvent-Resistant Laboratory Membrane Test Unit (LSta60LM-PLC)

The LSta60LM-PLC is a universal research unit to carry out experiments in the field of micro-, ultra-, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. This special version of the LSta product series is solvent-resistant and has been designed and optimized for the field of organophilic nanofiltration.

In the version described here, the unit has a test-cell for flat membranes (here about 250 cm²), a pressure tube for mono-channel ceramic membrane and a pressure tube for a technical spiral-wound module (here 1812, about 0,3 m²). Other modules (such as hollow fibre) can be integrated at any time. The unit is designed for a maximum temperature of 80 °C at a maximum pressure of 60 bar. For safe operation above 60 °C, the unit has an internal splash and scald protection. In addition, sampling of all product streams is possible at any time via own sampling points. For safe operation with solvents, the tightly sealed feed tank of the LSta60LM can be charged with inert gas. Furthermore, the unit is designed to be operated in a standard fume cupboard. For this, the control cabinet is dismantled, set up outside the fume cupboard and the safety shutdown of the system is coupled with that of the fume cupboard. Operation of the unit is only possible, if the fume cupboard is in operation. The universal equipment of the unit, the arbitrary use of different membrane types with the possibility of high-temperature control allow experimental runs across the entire range of industrial membrane applications.

The system described here is designed as a fully automated system. All functions, process steps and measurement data are controlled, monitored and stored via a PLC. The process parameters are variable and can be adjusted at any time. All measurement and control data can optionally be extracted from the PLC and recorded, standardized and visualized via an external data acquisition system. The test data are stored in a format readably by excel.

Filed of use:

  • Experiments on organophilic nanofiltration
  • Experiments on filtration o fand with solvents and aqueous solutions at high pressure and temperature
  • Experiments with different membrane types. Membrane materials, membrane geometries and flow aids
  • Experiments to optimize process parameters of industrial applications
  • Cleanability experiments of membranes
